The Beauties of Venice . The Paglia Bridge. This is an instantaneous view of the Ponte della Paglia, one of the principal bridges in Venice. Here we get a very good idea of Venetian life, and being one of the chief thoroughfares, it is always a busy spot. Sailors of all nations, from the vessels which lie in the vicinity, gondoliers, numerous idlers, and vendors in cooling drinks and small wares, are always to be found lounging about here, or congregated in the cafes adjoining. This is also the rendezvous of gondolas and gondoliers. The marble steps we see leading to the top of the bridge are common to all such bridges spanning the canals of Venice [B] From the middle of this bridge we get the best view of our next.

902_05_12516050highres Magic lantern slide circa 1900.Victorian.Social History.No. 1.?Algiers from the Harbour. Of all towns op the Mediterranean between Tunis and Tangiers there is none so calculated to enchant the traveller upon a first view as Algiers, both on account of the beauty of its surroundings and the unfamiliar and striking configuration of the city, which appears to be rising in dazzling radiance from the sea itself. It is difficult to conceive anything more alluring, more fantastically beautiful, than such a view. At the base of the town we see the quays, and a portion of the long line of Boulevards, built by Sir Morton Feto; in the centre we see a little spot of green, the clusters of palms and bamboos in the Place du Gouvernement; above rises, tier upon tier, the flat-roofed houses, dominated by the still massive citadel, the Casbah [B]. On our left we see one of the fine fleet of steamers which ply between Marseilles and Algiers.

Torrent Walk, Dolgelly.?This romantic place, of which only a view of the Torrent is given, is situated less than two miles from the town. The path by the stream is a steep ascent shaded by countless trees, and continuing for about a mile, meeting through its whole course the descending torrent, which dashes in glorious freedom over the rocks. On either side the banks, rising- in some places very precipitously, are covered with ferns and overhung by beautiful trees. This delightful spot is worthy of a good hour's inspection, and the tourist is sure to be pleased with the lovely little views it affords.

A tour of North Wales. 9.The Fairy Glen, Bettws-y-Coed.?This is truly an enchanting spot, and the tourist should spend a good quarter-of-an-hour in feasting his eyes on the beauty of the scene. It is justly named Fairy Glen, for one might almost fancy one saw the whole legion of the airy tribe making merry and skipping about in the sunlight. The prettiest view is that up the Conway, which is here shewn. None should ever leave the neighbourhood of Bettws-y-Coed without visiting this very romantic spot The swimming vapour slopes athwart the glen, Puts forth an arm, and creeps from pine to pine, And loiters, slowly drawn. On either hand The lawns and meadow-ledges midway down Hang rich in flowers, and far below them roars The long brook falling thro' the clov'n ravine In cataract after cataract to the sea.

A tour of North Wales. 31.View at Nant Mill?To get this view we can either descend Snowdon on the Llanberis side, and then take train, vid Carnarvon, for Bettws Garmon, or we can find our way over the mountain to Snowdon Hanger, and so along the valley. If we choose the former we have a pleasant ride along the peculiar little narrow-gauge railway, with its fine views, and the picture before us may be seen from the carriage windows as we pass along. This is a charming spot, and has long been a favourite haunt of the artist. Although the old Mill is gone, there remains still such a picture of exquisite beauty, that one cannot help a feeling of intense pleasure at the sight.
