Because of climate change, most of the waterways along the Jamuna river basin areas have already dried up even, disrupting plying of boasts and movement of passengers. Passengers have to travel a long way in search of navigable branches of the river, which consumes more time and fuel. They are forced to cross the sandy way on foot, taking a lot of time to reach to their destinations. So, he offers his prayer in the sandy riverbed as it will be very late to cross the riverbed go to a nearby mosque and pray. (Credit Image: © Joy Saha/ZUMA Press Wire)

20240429_shv_z03_324 April 29, 2024 - Africa - While southern Africa experienced a prolonged dry spell, heavy rains throughout April 2024 brought severe flooding to eastern African countries, including Tanzania, Kenya, and Somalia. In Tanzania, floods and landslides contributed to hundreds of injuries, more than 150 deaths, and thousands of damaged buildings, according to reports on April 26. Heavy rains in Kenya and Somalia also produced dangerous floods, displacing tens of thousands of people and inundating croplands. Tanzania's Rufiji district, about 130 kilometers (80 miles) south of Dar es Salaam, was one particularly hard-hit area. Flooding left tens of thousands of people there in need of food, shelter, clean water, and healthcare. Approximately 34,000 hectares (84,000 acres) of crops were also damaged, the district commissioner said in an April 10 report. (Credit Image: © NASA Earth/ZUMA Press Wire)

20240427_zia_p185_006 April 27, 2024, Berlin, Germany: Demonstrators gathered in Berlin on April 27, 2024, to protest against the recent death sentence of Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi, an outspoken critic of Iran's government, who was convicted on charges including ''corruption on Earth'' and ''waging war against God.'' The peaceful protest highlighted global concern over Iran's crackdown on dissent and the harsh penalties faced by protestors within the country. Salehi, a prominent figure in the Iranian music scene, has been under the spotlight since his 2022 arrest for supporting anti-government protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini. Despite a previous Supreme Court ruling potentially qualifying him for amnesty, a Revolutionary Court in Isfahan recently escalated his charges, leading to a death sentence, which his lawyer Amir Raesian confirmed he would appeal. The demonstration in Berlin saw participants holding signs bearing Salehi's image and messages advocating for freedom of expression and human rights. The protest demanded justice for Salehi and called for broader reforms in Iran. Demonstrators carried banners with messages supporting Reza Pahlavi, seeing him as a symbol of potential secular and democratic governance for Iran. Speakers at the event criticized the Iranian government's response to dissent and called for international pressure to ensure justice for Salehi and other political prisoners in Iran. 52830411 Demonstrators gathered in Berlin on April 27, 2024, to protest against the recent death sentence of Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi, an outspoken critic of Iran's government, who was convicted on charges including "corruption on Earth" and "waging war against God." The peaceful protest highlighted global concern over Iran's crackdown on dissent and the harsh penalties faced by protestors within the country. 20240425_shv_z03_231 April 25, 2024, Korea, In East Asia, the arrival of spring means warming temperatures, greening vegetation, and blooming flowers. But March and April also bring another guest: vast plumes of dust that stream east from the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts and across parts of eastern China, the Korean Peninsula, and southern Japan. Winds sometimes loft the region's dust high in the atmosphere, at times above the clouds, allowing dust particles to cross the Pacific Ocean and settle over North America. Other times, the lofted particles stay close to the surface and degrade air quality for millions of people in East Asia, one of the most densely populated regions in the world.
