The illustration shows dangerous human parasites and their developmental stages. The bladder worm (Cysticercus cellulosae) is the larval stage of the pork tapeworm that can embed itself in muscle tissue. The giant thorny-headed worm (Echinorhynchus gigas, now Macracanthorhynchus hirudinaceus) is an intestinal parasite in pigs with a characteristic hook-covered proboscis. The common roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides) can grow up to 40 cm long and is one of the most common intestinal parasites of humans worldwide, transmitted through fecally contaminated food.
