Theodore II, (1818 – 1868) Emperor of Ethiopia asked the British Consul to carry a letter to Queen Victoria requesting skilled workers to come to teach his subjects how to produce firearms and other technical skills. With no reply, he imprisoned all the British subjects in Ethiopia, included a missionary named Mr. Stern, who had published a book critical; of Theodore II. When he saw the book, he became violently angry, pulled a gun on Stern, and had to be restrained from killing the missionary.
