2SBY0BP Bridewell was more or less the equivalent of a minimum-security prison, filled with petty thieves, debtors, and people who had been detained on morals charges. Despite the austerity of the scene, the prison was known as one of the calmer and better appointed in the city—the only one where prisoners were provided bedding. This room was a ward for unmarried women, often prostitutes, who were going to be held in the city for seven days before being 'passed' back to their native parishes.
