2HH8R3B Queen Victoria 1838 Thomas Sully American Victoria (1819–1901) was Queen of the United Kingdom from 1837 to 1901. Shortly after her accession to the throne, Sully decided to visit his native England. The Society of the Sons of St. George, a charitable institution in Philadelphia, adopted a resolution to have Sully paint the Queen during this visit. Victoria sat for Sully throughout March, April and May of 1838 and he painted a number of sketches including this one. Designed by Sir William Tite in 1842-1844 and opened in 1844 by Queen Victoria , Royal Exchange is the third building of the kind erected on the same site. The first Exchange erected in 1564-70 by sir Thomas Gresham was destroyed in the great fire of 1666. It’s successor, by Jarman, was also burned down in 1838. The present building is grade 1 listed and cost about £150,000.

RKM224 The Concert Hall in St George's Hall, in Lime Street, in the centre of the English city of Liverpool. Built in Neoclassical style, the foundation stone was laid to commemorate the coronation of Queen Victoria in 1838. Sir Charles Cockerell was largely responsible for the decoration of the interior. The roof is a tunnel vault carried on columns of polished red granite; the walls have niches for statues and the panelled plasterwork of the vault has allegorical figures of Virtues, Science and Arts and the highly decorated floor consists of over 30,000 Minton tiles. The hall was opened in 1854.
