English: Astronomy This etching, entitled 'Astronomy', depicts a group of three women and five men in an idealised setting of classical ruins discussing astronomy, or looking at astronomical instruments. The instruments depicted are a number of hand-held telescopes, an armillary sphere, a celestial globe, divers, a set square and back-staff. It displays astronomy as polite knowledge, suitable for the entertainment and instruction of young ladies as well as gentlemen.
