akg8324704 Italy, Tuscany, Florence, Oltrarno city quarter, Giardino Boboli (Boboli Garden; also: Boboli Gardens): relief style mosaic with symbol (sail on top of a turtle) of motto "Festina lente" of the Medici dynasty at right hand side of entrance to the Grotta del Buontalenti; The motto "Festina lente", meaning "make haste slowly", also sometimes "make haste less fast", dates back to ancient antique Roman Times. Roman Emperors Augustus and Titus used the motto, as well. But their symbol to illustrate it, was an anchor with a dolphin. The Medici adopted the antique motto, but changed the illustration into a sail (canvas) on top of a turtle.
