He owned fortified distilleries in the so-called 'Death Valley', Westwood, Cincinnati, (seen here). Death Valley was the largest illegal whisky distilling operation in the United States.. Remus is said to have never drunk whiskey in his lifetime allowing him to live a lavish lifestyle from his mansion home. He was said to be a friendly generous man but killed one of his wives, Imogen, claiming insanity and was freed from the asylum after only 7 months.
