Descrição:	Frederick Soddy (1877-1956), British radiochemist and Nobel laureate. Soddy's discoveries contributed to the understanding of radioactivity, and his work on radioactive decay won him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1921. After graduating from Oxford he spent several years in Canada, working with Ernest Rutherford to prove that radioactive elements decayed into other elements, releasing alpha, beta and gamma radiation. On his return to Britain he showed uranium decays to radium, and furthered the understanding of isotopes. This portrait is from the Bain News Service, one of America's oldest news picture agencies, which holds images dating from the 1890s to the 1930s.
