| Descrição: | Milky Way over sculpture in the Atacama Desert. Arc of the Milky Way in the night sky over a sculpture (far right) in the Atacama Desert in the Atacama region of Chile. La Mano Del Desierto ('The Desert Hand') is an 11-metre-tall sculpture completed in 1992 by Chilean sculptor Mario Irarrazabal. The Milky Way is our galaxy seen from the inside, forming a band of stars and nebulae stretching across the sky. To the left of the sculpture are the Small Magellanic Cloud and Large Magellanic Cloud galaxies. At upper left, the bright object is the planet Jupiter. Photographed in 2019. |
