| Descrição: | Epicyon haydeni. Illustration and photo-reconstruction of the gigantic ancient dog Epicyon pursuing prey. In the background are Aepycamelus giraffe-like camelids. Epicyon is a large extinct canid genus of the subfamily Borophaginae (bone-crushing dogs), native to North America. It lived from the Hemingfordian age of the Early Miocene to the Hemphillian of the Late Miocene. Epicyon existed for about 12-9 million years. The largest known specimen weighed an estimated 120 kilograms. |
