Descrição:	Hertz's electromagnetism experiments. 19th-century illustration of the experiments on electromagnetism carried out in the 1880s by German physicist Heinrich Hertz (1857-1894). These experiments proved the existence of the electromagnetic waves theorised by James Clerk Maxwell. At lower left is a Ruhmkorff coil powering a spark transmitter with a dipole antenna and spark gap. The resulting radio waves can be detected by the receiver (loop antenna at centre). A prism made of pitch (upper left) was used to bend the radio waves (showing their similarity to light waves). At right is the apparatus for a directional transmitter, with a metal parabolic reflector and receiver, and a sheet of metal (far right) reflecting the radio waves.
