Haemodialysis machines are used to take over the function of failed or failing kidneys. Tubes pass blood from the patient through the artificial kidney machine, which removes waste products and excess water, and then returns the cleansed blood to the patient. Here, infusion pumps (centre) and a ventilator (right) are also in use.
