| Descrição: | Stanislaw Ulam (1909-1984), Polish-American mathematician. Ulam is most famous for his role in the Manhattan project. This project, which started in 1942, involved designing, constructing and testing the atomic bomb. He helped develop the implosion igniter for the fission atomic bomb in 1945. Together with Teller, he was instrumental in developing the hydrogen bomb of 1952. He also made many other contributions in scientific fields, including the Monte Carlo method for solving mathematical problems by random electronic sampling. |
