As a divine source of wisdom Hermes "Thrice-greatest" is credited with extensive writings, and the Hermetica is a collection of Egyptian-Greek texts from the second and third centuries AD dealing with the mind, cosmos, alchemy, astrology etc. He is presenting a book referring to Egypt as being the site of ancient wisdom to a sage from the Orient and one from the West.
