Descrição:	Vredefort crater, satellite image. The Vredefort meteor impact crater (semi-circular, lower centre) is the largest, and second-oldest, known impact crater on Earth. It is located in the Free State Province, South Africa, and named after the town of Vredefort (grey, lower centre), which is situated near its centre. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and measures approximately 250-300 kilometres in diameter. It is one of only a few multi-ringed impact craters on Earth and is thought to have been formed over 2 billion years ago, during the Palaeoproterozoic era.
