Descrição:	Charles Ponzi (1882-1949), Italian businessman. Ponzi was the most famous exponent of the fraudulent investment system now known as a Ponzi scheme. This involves paying initial investors with money obtained from later investors, despite not making a profit. Ponzi's scheme, established in Boston, USA, collapsed in August 1920 and investors lost millions. Ponzi served over 12 years in jail, was deported back to Italy, and died in poverty in Brazil. This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of the USA's earliest news picture libraries. The bulk of the Bain images date from the period from the 1890s to the 1930s.
