Though born in Germany, he moved to Switzerland in 1895 and in 1901 became a Swiss citizen. In 1933 while visiting America in 1933, Hitler came to power in Germany and because of his Jewish background, he decided t stay there. In 1940 he became an American citizen. Despite his pacifist views he advised the American Government of the dangers of the Nazis developing a nuclear weapon.
